Presently

Presently is a little collection of my favorites things this season; simple joys and ideas worth sharing around the topic of living a more soulful, heart-centered life.

In this spring season, I am presently…

Growing

… marigold seedlings, sown into egg shells on the first day of spring. I just potted them up into larger containers last week. They are a variety I’m really excited about, ‘Kilimanjaro White’.

… tulips, daffodils, primroses, peonies, lilacs, hydrangea cuttings and a little gardener who is falling in love with plants just as much as I am. We relocated and expanded her garden this year and it’s just so sweet.

… my lots of winter and early spring sown seedlings in milk jugs greenhouses. We’ve had very back and forth spring weather here in PA so I’ve kept them in there protected, all the way to Mother’s Day. This week I think they are ready to open up and plant out! I sowed almost all of my seeds this year using this method and I am converted. Here’s the tutorial from my last journal, in case you missed it: Winter Sowing in Milk Jugs

… my knowledge of edible and medicinal plants through attending workshops at Horn Farm Center. It’s an amazing resource for Agricultural education that we are lucky to have here in York County. Here’s the list of their upcoming classes & workshops if you’re interested in learning more!

… a sense of real community through my Cross Quarter Club. We just had our Mid-spring gathering, where we celebrated May Day with arranging flowers, trading plants and seedlings then enjoying hot tea and honey cake to the sound of a spring rain on our pavilion’s tin roof. There are lots more pictures on my Instagram! We are also planning some field trips this spring and summer to local botanical gardens and native plant festivals, so if that’s up your alley - sign up for our email list at the bottom of this page.

… my creative capacity. I’m looking forward to having a bit more time for my own pursuits this summer and seeing where that leads. Slowing down wasn’t comfortable and putting myself out there again now isn’t comfortable either. But at this point in my life, I’m devoted to finding a realistic, sustainable blend of creative work and family life through the discomfort.
