My Favorite Greenhouses & Plant Nurseries in York County, PA (Updated for 2024!)

Every year around this time, I get the same question: “where are your favorite places to buy plants”? York County, Pennsylvania is lucky to have a plethora of locally-owned, independent garden centers, plant nurseries, and greenhouses. With our last frost date fast approaching, they are stocking up with all the annuals, perennials, veggie starts, herbs, shrubs, trees, and other landscape plants you could dream of!

The following is not an exhaustive list of all the greenhouses in our area, just a list of my personal favorites for one reason or another, in no particular order. You will also notice the bulk of them are around the south-east side of the county, which is where I live! If you have any recommendations for garden centers north or west of York City, please share them in the comments below!

Happy plant shopping!

Pheasant Run is one of my top favorites and it’s gotten better every year! They are a family owned-and-operated greenhouse offering a wide selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, veggie starts, herbs, and water plants at some of the best pricing I’ve found. They are a great resource for hydrangea lovers, like me! My kids love their play area, with a sandbox, slides, and swings.

Heartwood is a woman-owned, independent nursery that specializes in native trees, shrubs and perennials and is my very favorite place to shop. The extensive grounds are preserved through the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County, and the owner, Sue Hunter has dedicated the last 3 decades to reforesting a large percentage of the property with native species indigenous to the area. You don’t want to miss Heartwood’s annual Serviceberry Festival in June!
