My Favorite Greenhouses & Plant Nurseries in York County, PA (Updated for 2024!)
Every year around this time, I get the same question: “where are your favorite places to buy plants”? York County, Pennsylvania is lucky to have a plethora of locally-owned, independent garden centers, plant nurseries, and greenhouses. With our last frost date fast approaching, they are stocking up with all the annuals, perennials, veggie starts, herbs, shrubs, trees, and other landscape plants you could dream of!
The following is not an exhaustive list of all the greenhouses in our area, just a list of my personal favorites for one reason or another, in no particular order. You will also notice the bulk of them are around the south-east side of the county, which is where I live! If you have any recommendations for garden centers north or west of York City, please share them in the comments below!
Happy plant shopping!
Pheasant Run Greenhouse
10341 Brillhart Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327
TLDR: Wide selection, great value, fun play area for kids
Pheasant Run is one of my top favorites and it’s gotten better every year! They are a family owned-and-operated greenhouse offering a wide selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, veggie starts, herbs, and water plants at some of the best pricing I’ve found. They are a great resource for hydrangea lovers, like me! My kids love their play area, with a sandbox, slides, and swings.
Heartwood Nursery
8957 Hickory Road, Felton, PA 17322
TLDR: A destination for native perennials, trees, and shrubs, Serviceberry Festival in June
Heartwood is a woman-owned, independent nursery that specializes in native trees, shrubs and perennials and is my very favorite place to shop. The extensive grounds are preserved through the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County, and the owner, Sue Hunter has dedicated the last 3 decades to reforesting a large percentage of the property with native species indigenous to the area. You don’t want to miss Heartwood’s annual Serviceberry Festival in June!

If you plant a lot annuals or make your own container combinations, then you need to check out Riddle’s! They have an incredible selection of well-priced annuals in every color scheme you can imagine. They carry the one of the largest selections of Proven Winners annuals that I’ve seen around. They also have smaller areas with veggie starts, herbs, and perennials.
Miller Plant Farm
430 Indian Rock Dam Road, York, PA 17403
TLDR: Great combination garden center and farm market, a good one-stop shop
Miller is a family-owned business that’s a fantastic, one-stop shop for pretty much any plants and supplies you need for your garden. They have an extensive selection inside their greenhouse and I always see really beautiful, unique shade and sun perennial varieties there. They also have a market with produce and baked goods as well as a CSA that runs from June through November if that’s something you’re interested in!
Hueter’s Greenhouses

Recently under new ownership, Hueter’s Greenhouses has been a York County fixture since 1973. They offer an extensive selection of plants and hosts seasonal markets, food truck Fridays, workshops, and private events. They also have an adorable kids play area! Their prices tend to be on the higher side, but it’s worth a stop for the selection and charming atmosphere!

TLDR: Excellent value, solid selection, kids love visiting the chickens!
Small Family Farm is a little off the beaten path but it’s become one of our go-to spots! They have the best pricing I’ve encountered in York County. My kids love coming here to choose a plant from their “$1 section” and visit with the chickens while I shop! They have a smaller but solid selection of annuals and perennials, hanging baskets, and container plantings. I always find unique perennials here, and at $4 each, or 2 for $7 - the price can’t be beat!
